Default World Map

Hey, I’m new to this site so I’m not sure if this topic has been discussed before, so I hope you can forgive me if it has.

I have been a long time Guild Wars player, and not that we have three continents to travel too I think it would be appropriate if Arena Net implemented a world map. A map that has Tyria, Elona and Cantha on it (although I’m not quite sure where Cantha is in relation to the world).

I know this kind of ignores the idea of the three city ports, but why do I have to go through Lions Arch when I want to go to Ascalon? It just makes the port cities congested and crowded...

I would like to hear your thoughts.

They might add it in GW:EN, but for now, it's not possible...

Thumbs down I say: keep it the current way

The current system concentrates travelling players in the port cities, making those the places where everyone knows there will be folk around.
Removing the little inconveniance of having intercontinental travel pass through those places, might further increase the social isolation of many.
Also, Arenanet's in-game PR spokesperson, Gaile Grey makes her appearances in those places, as audience is always guaranteed, because of this "inconveniance".

Nice idea, but since it requires a radical redesign of the current maps I'm not in favour of this. It also may interfere with the cartographer titles.

Personally I woudl love a world map, I hate having to travel to the port towns to be able to go to areas on different campaigns, especially as since they are trade centres they are very crowded and slow to load into,

I don't believe that simply by introducing a world map, that these trade centres will disapear, as there are trade centres that are not ports, Droks for example.

And the maps that Odinius has on show are gorgeous,

I'm not sure how much work would go into having a further mode in the Map screen that allows further zooming out, but I don't think it would take anywhere near as long as intorducing new skills or content upgrading like Hard Mode did.

As an idea I would like it to be introduced and even if it took 6 months to do, would appreciate it.

As a Legendary explorer I like this idea, and would find it useful for my other character going for this, makes it easier to see where i need to go on each continant.

Mind you this is comign from someone that woudl love to see how the whole world looks, because damn i really want to travel North of the shiverpeaks, East of Ascalon, West of the Jungle, and South of Cantha. I want to travel the whole world! Now I know we will get an expansion North, so thats great, I'm just goign to miss the opening of new areas, a regretable but necessary thing with the halting of Chapters

/signed anyway as it just makes sense to eventually join all the maps together into one large piece. But maybe only allow you to do it once you have legendary cartographer. Have it be a reward!

You go speak to an explorer NPC who says "Now that your are a legendary Cartographer I will combine all your maps for you!"

Result = somethig like what Odinius did!

Just for the record:
I'm not the one who made the maps, all credit goes to Steve Costa
who made these compiled maps in 2006
